I love smoothies. Colorful, juicy, and sweet – it is such an easy and delicious way to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. For people who prefer a very light breakfast, it is also a super easy and healthy way to start a day! Over the years I have only been making smoothies consisting of natural sweet juices, fruits, and seeds (sweet tooth over here!), but then I realized that fresh leafy greens could add so much more nutritional value to it.
Below I am sharing my favorite green smoothie recipe, which consists of only 3 very simple and common ingredients. I have tasted many green smoothies with a bunch of different fancy ingredients in it that did not leave a great impression in the end, mostly because of an overpowering taste of vegetables or herbs in it. However, the one I am sharing with you is very different, as it is green but sweet at the same time! When it comes to taste, after a lot of experimenting I still find this simple and affordable recipe the best when talking about smoothies from fruits and greens. Enjoy!
For one full glass:
- 1 banana – fiber, potassium, vitamins B6, C, and A, calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, various proteins, amino acids, and antioxidants.
- Juice & some pulp from 2-3 oranges (depending on size) – vitamins A, C, B1, B9, B3, potassium, magnesium, and various other minerals.
- A handful of spinach – vitamins A, C, E, K, B11, B6, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and others.
Bonus points (optional): if you want some extra health boost, you can add various seeds to it as well. E.g. hemp, flax, sunflower seeds – all packed with healthy nutrients and antioxidants and, when added just a small amount, won’t influence a taste that much!
Simply squeeze the juice out of the oranges and keep some pulp, as it contains a lot of nutrients and fiber. Pour everything to a blender, then add the banana pieces and a handful of spinach. The final result will be a glass of rather thick, deep green smoothie that will give you an instant natural energy boost. Cheers!
